My Kindergarten students typically come to me without attending preschool and with little or no pre-literacy skills. All of them are learning English as a second language and many of them have heard the language on television only. They face many obstacles including poverty, illiterate or absent parents, and lack of exposure to the world beyond their own neighborhood. Despite this, they come with enthusiasm and hope and a willingness to work hard. It is inspiring and exciting to guide them in becoming readers and writers and I am always amazed at the huge amount of progress they make from August to June. It is astounding; it's why I'm here.

About my class
