In the writing center and sensory table students will be able to use the magnetic letters to compare and contrast the letters and their sounds. They will use the letters and reading materials to help activate their ideas around literacy and reading. In science, social studies and math the manipulatives and books will help build students comprehension and hands on experience of math and science. For example the career puzzles will allow students to build their fine motor skills as well as their hand and eye coordination. It will also give the students the visual they need to make a meaningful connection between the different careers that we talk about in social studies. The art and dramatic play materials will help provide students with a concrete experience and practice of life skills. For example in dramatic play when students dress and undress the dolls, those life skills can be transferred into their personal self-care. In art they can use the materials to build and design their own ideas and interpretation of lessons and stories. The library is very limited and any additional board books will be greatly appreciated. The more books the students are exposed to the more information and knowledge they will acquire independently and with adult support. The reason for board books is because they tend to last longer with young children than paperback books that easily rip, tear, and fall apart.
