My class is comprised of curious, competent, capable four and five-year-old students who attend a public preschool in a diverse community in New Jersey. Like most children, they are drawn to the wonders of the natural world. Since they are young learners, many in their first school setting, we strive to provide them with a meaningful, hands-on curriculum. Even the most timid children open up and explore monarchs with wonder and awe. This project is dependent on the natural life cycle and migration of the monarch butterfly, so the children entering my class in the fall of 2012 will use these materials.
