My students are in the fifth grade in an inner city public school in Massachusetts. Most of them do not have books at home, access to a library within a safe walking distance or many opportunities to read outside of the classroom. They face many challenges and I want to create an atmosphere in the classroom that is safe, positive and instills a love of literature.
