My students are economically impoverished high school students living in a blighted urban location. They receive free lunch because of their family's economic situation and often cannot afford city bus fare to get to school. So they must walk. Needless to say, they can not afford to buy calculators for their children. 80% of the school population is African American and the other 20% is Hispanic.
