Students learn organizational skills in first grade. We follow routines and develop independence and responsibility. Making sure that homework and school papers go home and are returned daily is a routine in our class. My students have backpacks and lunches they need to organize. Unfortunately, our classroom was built without closet space for backpacks. Our classroom is small, and the space I have created for the backpacks is not adequate. Backpacks, lunches, and jackets spill onto the floor and becomes a safety hazard. Having a mobile backpack storage cart would allow each of my students to hang their backpacks. They would be able to readily access their belongs and the portable unit could be moved outside the classroom to allow for more learning space. I would not have to worry about students tripping over backpacks or jackets on the floor. The cart would allow us to spend more time learning while making our classroom less cluttered and more organized.
