My classroom consists of 31 African-American and Latino students. My students are a unique group because the majority of them have been with me since they were in 1st grade. We have established a true community of learners who challenge each other academically. They are eager to learn and continually look for opportunities to grow. They represent the highest number of gifted students in one grade our school has ever had. This is a great accomplishment despite the fact that our school is located in one of the poorest areas in our country. We are a Title I school and all students receive free breakfast and lunch.
