I teach in an inner-city school in Massachusetts. Our community is vibrant with students from over 46 different countries. More than half of the students in my school are second language learners, and some are not able to express themselves to others in English yet. Music is a language every student can speak, if they have the proper tools (instruments, passion, and support.) I teach over 400 students per week, in very large classroom sizes, This year I will be teaching 11 general music classes, with 28 middle school students per class. My students have instruments, but a guitar becomes of little use when it has to be shared between six students, and each student can only practice it once per week for 42 minutes.
