My students are Kindergarten English Language Learners who attend a Title I school in Southern California. They come from homes where Spanish is spoken and English is their second language. Our school serves students whose families struggle to provide the basic necessities. My 26 students are extremely eager when it comes to learning new concepts. Like every child at this age, is easier for them to learn when they hear a specific song that is being taught to reinforce a specific skill. My students come to school daily and don't get to listen tho children's songs or get to be exposed to music that is culturally relevant or culturally different than their own. Moreover, my students love music and are very talented. They learn so fast with the help of music despite their language barrier.
