Our special day class is located in the Los Angeles Unified School District, within the San Fernando Valley. Our student population is predominately students that are English Language Learners and that also participate in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. We are one of three special day classrooms on a general education campus. Our class consists of 12 students with mild to moderate disabilities ranging from autism to specific learning disabilities. Our class consists of students in 1st-3rd grade. Since our class is predominately boys, we have bounding daily energy! Lessons must be visual, interactive, and high interest in order to maintain a purposeful learning environment. My students look forward to our weekly Social Studies, Art, and Science lessons that incorporate relevant learning and hands-on experiences that include student-student interaction opportunities, creativity, and critical thinking.
