I don't teach kids, I teach sponges!! My kids absolutely love to learn about our nation's history and the incredible people who helped to create this history. When I teach a history lesson using picture books they absorb more information, and make more connections to themselves, to the world, and to other books when learning about social studies through literature. After introducing them to a historical figure or event they go out on their own to our school or community library to find more books about what they have learned. The kids love to come back to class to share their findings and often ask if they can read aloud to their peers. My young students love to learn, and it is my goal to help them not just achieve proficiency, but more importantly, to become life-long learners in a world in which history is made every day.
