I teach a terrific group of students who have committed to a challenging course of study in our honors academy. My ninth graders are bright and enthusiastic hard workers. My senior Advanced Placement students (many of whom were my ninth graders four years ago) have an often daunting workload of one and a half to two hours of homework per AP class each day. The course work is challenging, and every minute counts. Much of my students’ work is submitted online and we work hard to make the best use of the technology available to us at our public high school; however, our school (like most public schools) has very limited funding. My students and their families also face financial challenges. When a key piece of equipment wears out in our classroom it can severely limit our productivity.
