My students are a group of bright, energetic 6th & 7th graders with great potential. Our public middle school is located in a sprawling urban area marred by high poverty and gang violence. In spite of these challenges, my students are enthusiastic about learning and filled with hope that they will be the first in their family to go to college. In our district, less than 40% of the students graduate from high school. However, I come to work each day determined to help my students beat the odds and not only graduate from high school, but go on to college. Though my students must face violence and poverty each day, they are supported by loving families, caring teachers, and a tight-knit school community. Please help these children realize their dreams.
