My students come from a school that is experiencing more and more free and reduced lunch each year. It is important to me for them all to experience the joys that reading holds for them in any economic situation. Many of my students come from divorced or single parent homes, and reading can be an escape for these kids. It has been my quest to teach my students to find beauty and love for others, and understand that there are kids who struggle even more than they may. This year we have pulled together to adopt a family in need at Christmas time, make care packages for a child battling Leukemia, clean an area outside of our school for our students to explore nature and read, and collect supplies to help our fellow Hoosiers who lost their homes in horrific tornadoes recently. My students need to have a place to read and discover the knowledge and adventures hidden in every book.
