I have been teaching Chinese Language Arts and Math in Mandarin at Jose Ortega Elementary School since 2011. Every year several students transfer to my classes from other schools in the district. Some students new to the U.S. come from mainland China as well. This year I have 25 students in 4th grade and 33 in 5th grade. My students come from a variety of ethnic and social backgrounds...and most have been studying Mandarin since Kindergarten. My students are smart and hardworking and they like to be challenged. They are making great progress in studying the Chinese language. Overall they are doing extremely well academically in both subjects. However, many of the students come from poorer families and they need your help in supplying the study materials they need to excel in school. A BIG thank-you to all the people who support education.
