I teach 8 students ranging from 10 years old to 13 years old with a wide range of abilities. All my students have severe learning issues, ranging from autism to down syndrome to emotional issues. Many of them come from a single parent or guardian home. They are sweet, loving, kind, and each have their own talents and abilities. In many cases there is not much support at home. The school I am at is a great school with talented people working for the students, but since funding is very low I cannot always get the supplies I need throughout the year. The supplies I do receive do not last for the whole year. Thus, I have to pay for supplies myself. The school is in a low income neighborhood in one of the outer boroughs of New York City.
