STEM activities, like the Design and Build Engineering Centers, will provide students the opportunity to follow directions and work as a team while solving real world problems and building listening skills. It will give them a chance to work out difference of opinions and how to look at things from someone else's perspective. Classic board games, such as Guess Who and Sorry, will give my students a chance to build their social skills through play. It allows them the chance to practice reading and following directions, taking turns, and having social conversations while playing. So much of our classroom time is devoted to becoming better readers, writers, and mathematicians, however the same time has to be given to developing these social skills in our students. These activities and games will give them that opportunity.
