Many of my students come in carrying big feelings, big energy, or big worries, and these sensory tools have become exactly what they need to settle, feel safe, and open up.\r\n\r\nWe now use these tools in every session. Students start by choosing what will help their bodies get ready to learn; fidgets, sensory seats, calm strips, or weighted items. \r\n\r\nMy older students use them to stay regulated during reading and vocabulary work, and my younger ones thrive with the sensory bins and tactile objects during articulation and early language tasks.\r\n\r\nWhile retelling the story Biblioburro, a student who often struggles with regulation chose a sensory cushion and a small hand fidget. For the first time this year, he retold the entire story, beginning, middle, and end, using all five story grammar icons!!!\r\n\r\nAs we head into our winter units; research, vocabulary-building, and stronger sentence construction, these sensory supports will continue to help students stay grounded and confident. My hope is that they'll not only grow in their speech and language goals but also learn what tools help them feel regulated, focused, and proud of their progress.\r\n\r\nYour generosity didn't just provide materials. You created a calming space where my students' voices can grow. Thank you for believing in them and helping them feel seen, supported, and capable.","fullyFundedDate":1712185866682,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-speech/8297808/","projectTitle":"Sensory Speech","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Saucedo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6524993_orig.jpg?crop=433,433,x75,y225&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741056477359","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6524993"},{"teacherId":7273140,"projectId":9674162,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donations. \r\n\r\nI started in this school this past September as their STEAM teacher, a position that is sort of undefined in many ways. The idea is just to teach kids problem solving skills through a combination of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. I had plenty of \"hi-tech\" items like robots, but not so much for the building and engineering. Your donation went to get items that could be used right away to teach about building, coding, and teamwork.\r\n\r\nThese are all really good kids, many of them in a rough place financially, but they want to learn. Kids love this stuff, they just need the resources, opportunities, and the guidance. You can know that you helped provide that for them.\r\n\r\nI want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I don't like having to ask anyone for money so understand that when I do it's because I really do believe in what the money is going to do.
