Our 9th grade class is on average, over 3 years behind in reading. With a 9th grade class reading at 5.7 a reading level, literacy in our 9th grade english class is so important. If our students don't become better readers, their options in our low income community are bleak. Many of our students come from foster homes, group homes, or are homeless. In spite of the challenges they face, our students are amazing. They work hard. They want better for themselves, and their families. They know they are behind in school, and want to catch up.
