Many of my students come from impoverished, disadvantaged households where reading materials of any kind are scarce. Some of my students have even confided to me that my English class is the first one in which they've ever read a book in its entirety. I've learned, however, that when kids are introduced to compelling reading materials, their interest levels soar.
