The students in my class attend a K-1 primary center in a low socioeconomic area. Most of these students come from single income homes where one or both parents have had little or no formal education. A large majority of these students are English language learners who's outside experiences extend only to the local fast food restaurant or the park. Yet what ALL these students share is an overwhelming desire to learn. They thrive academically by their desire to achieve yet hindered by lack of extra curricular resources not only in their homes and community but school too. Home is where the heart is, their hearts are at school, where everyday they are growing, learning, creating.
