Our school's 2009-2010 profile report identifies three major concerns: transiency (32.5%), habitual truancy (92 reported incidents), and credit deficiency for graduation (27.2% for the class of 2012). Additionally, 20% of students did not pass last year's Writing Proficiency Exam, and for those who did, only 1% exceeded standards. For students with an Individual Education Plan, approximately 10% of enrolled students, we did not make Annual Yearly Progress in writing. My school falls under the Title I category, which means over 50% of students receive either a free or reduced lunch. Sadly, one of the biggest problems facing my students is a lack of intrinsic motivation to attend school and pass classes. At the beginning of the year, about 40 students are enrolled in each class, but by the end of the year, several have dropped out or transferred. Graduation rate sits between 68-69%. The bottom line - materials and technology are NOT prolific which impacts learning.
