My students are the bright stars of the future. They are inquisitive and love learning. Many times they've told me how happy they are to come to school and learn. That along with their sweet notes of appreciation make my job as a 1st grade teacher a joy. My students are English Language Learners. Most come from low-income families with Spanish-speaking families. The school is located in a middle-class residential area, yet all of our students commute from the nearby Section 8 low-income housing units and apartments. Many of our students and their families find themselves having to walk long distances to get to school due to the lack of public transportation. Our students have hard working parents who have high hopes for their children's futures.
