These students are high school English Learners who were born in the United States and have had their entire education in the United States, yet the education system has failed them thus far. They are 10th graders who have ninth grade credits and will be lucky if they can get motivated to pass their classes to graduate. Their parents do not speak English and most of their parents do not have higher than a high school education. Their high school is primarily Hispanic and students come from varied economic classes from the projects to upper class. Many students who drop out of school do end up in gangs surrounding the area.
