We are an AP Literature class in an economically disadvantaged area of California. Because of the disadvantages the youth in our area face, it is so important to introduce students to every opportunity available to them. And after a colleague told me about the ABC Family matching funds, I was inspired to give Donors Choose a try. This class of students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures, but share the love of literature and the desire for an education that will help them to succeed in their future. Many of these students live in neighborhoods that are not always safe, so allowing them into a world of literature can become an escape for them and can open their eyes to a world they may never get to experience. However, with the education they are seeking and taking seriously, this world will become more available to them.
