I teach in a middle class school that resides on the east bench of Utah. We are not a Title I school so we do not receive any extra funds to help benefit our students. Our children are highly supported at home and parents do try to volunteer in the classroom but it has decreased significantly due to our economy as they have needed to return to the workforce. My students are inquisitive, bright and they always keep me on my toes! I teach first grade and it is a wonderful grade to constantly witness "light bulb" moments as these children learn how to read, solve math problems and even write their first story. I also teach the gifted students who already at this young age possess great leadership qualities. My class motto is: Lift as you climb! My students learn to understand that as he or she is “climbing to the top” and is striving to succeed individually, he or she must always remember to “lift” and help others along their way. Every child matters and excels in some way!
