We teach yearly interdisciplinary units about identity, engineering, and justice. Our library must reflect the identity of our students and advance justice. We have plans to infuse our current literacy, science, and social studies small groups with more contemporary, and culturally relevant texts. This library will support targeted literacy instruction and independent investigations for our students while allowing them to explore characters, authors, historical and contemporary figures of color. This is a big project because sets of six texts allow us to use these books in school in guided reading groups as well as allowing readers to check out books to read at home.
