My students will be able to choose from among these wonderful books and then engage in literature circle discussions with their classmates. They will have multiple opportunities to explore the complex ideas in the books in order to promote their high-level literary reasoning. They will engage in online discussion boards prior to their in-person book group meetings. They will make connections between these books and other texts, including articles, poems, and the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. These opportunities will allow them to think deeply about the text, to ponder life through great literature, and of course, to become better readers.
