I teach first grade in an urban school district. The school provides a limited amount of materials to the classrooms. I pretty much just receive copy paper which is rationed (2 packs per month). Anything that I would like to see in my classroom needs to be purchased by me, from the mere basics like a pencil sharpener to the necessities like reading books. My students are wonderful hardworking scholars who push against the odds every day. Despite it all, I am very proud of the school I work for and the culture of my classroom.
