My students are energetic sixth graders with a passion for learning and a determination to succeed. The majority of my students live in poverty and are children of immigrants and refugees. They attend a Title I school, with a diverse student body with many abilities, ethnic and racial backgrounds, and challenges. Most of my students are the only fluent English speakers in their homes, apart from siblings, so they often act as liaisons between their families and their school and community. They are passionate about succeeding so that they might help their families and improve their communities. Although the families of my students are supportive and caring, many do not have the necessary academic resources and knowledge to adequately support their students' academic career. As a result, there is an increased need for engaging yet rigorous educational support at school.
