Using children's literature in math lessons can enhance student learning in many ways. Storybooks in mathematics class can help build an intangible perception of math skills through illustrations as well as help students build problem solving skills. Math becomes more interesting when a child can make a math connection in a story. Here are the top 5 reasons my students will benefit from using math specific texts during math class: 1.) They are engaging. 2.) They make math less intimidating. 3.) They present a topic in a new way. 4.) They encourage meaningful math discussion. 5.) They make math real and relevant.
