Our classroom is an integrated co-teaching classroom where there are two teachers, my co-teacher and myself. This allows our students to receive instruction in smaller groups. Our students are 26 3rd graders in an inner city public school. Most students are living below the poverty line. Most of the students are first generation Americans. Many of them do not speak English at home. Twelve students are Special Education students with emotional disturbances, intellectual disabilities or speech impairments. Most of the students are reading below grade level, some as low as kindergarten or prekindergarten levels. Our students enjoy working in groups, listening to read alouds and using technology. Many have been in the same class together since kindergarten and they work nicely together and look out for each other.
