I teach at a Title I elementary school that serves a large population of Spanish-speaking newcomer students. Our school community is primarily working class, and many students are learning English while adapting to a new educational environment. My classroom has 27 students, including several students who receive special education services. To meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of our students, I work within a co-teaching model alongside a general education teacher and a paraprofessional. This collaborative approach allows us to provide differentiated instruction, targeted interventions, and inclusive support for all learners. I am responsible for teaching the science curriculum. Science is taught twice per week because the district categorizes elementary science a specialist subject (similar to music, PE, art, and library) rather than as a core academic area. Despite the limited instructional time, and resource limitations, , I strive to provide engaging, hands-on learning experiences that promote inquiry, critical thinking, and scientific literacy for all students. The combination of multilingual learners, students with diverse learning needs, and a collaborative teaching structure creates a dynamic classroom environment that emphasizes inclusion, accessibility, and high expectations for every student
