New for the 2019-2020 academic school year, all 4th and 5th grade students will learn music theory, learn to play a musical instrument, participate in choral music, and learn the basics of theater (including acting and set design). Our grade level teams are thrilled to develop a music focused program and bring these exciting opportunities to our students. We know that studying drama and performing arts not only engages with the creative side of the brain, it also provides an ideal balance in students’ patterns of study. Drama and the performing arts allow students to develop cognitive abilities which complement study in other disciplines. In order to ensure all of our students are able to participate in this school wide initiative, we are working to build up or inventory of high quality musical instruments for student use. The four clarinets requested in this project will be shared across our 4th & 5th grade classrooms and bridge any gap our families have in accessing instruments.
