My students are hilarious, fiercely stubborn in the best way, and honestly some of the most resilient kids I have ever taught. Most are in credit recovery, working to catch up on classes that did not click the first time around, for reasons that were not their fault. Some have been told they are "just bad at math," but they show up anyway, ready to wrestle with a problem even when it is giving them a hard time. They crack jokes mid-worksheet, root for each other when someone finally gets it, and never stop trying even when the material feels stacked against them. They deserve a math class that meets them where they are and helps them believe they can catch up.
