My students live in California. We are a Title 1 school. This distinction means that the majority of our school population, is receiving Aide to Dependent Children from the Department of Social Services. The students come from diverse backgrounds including Russian, Latino, African American, Asian, Caucasian and Native American. Our school site is located in a unique setting within the city of Sacramento. We are a small school that is somewhat located in a country atmosphere. Although many of our students are bussed in from nearby inner city apartment complexes, some of our classmates live on small farms where they are responsible for feeding animals and completing outdoor chores daily. We are currently learning about the Miwok Indians and found out we have two Miwok children in our class! So our class is truly a small representation of our larger global family throughout the world.
