I work in a high-needs elementary school with students in grades K-5. I get to spend my days as a speech therapist working with the most amazing and diverse group of 45+ GenEd and self-contained students. Our school is almost 50 years old and is completely neighborhood and community centered. My students work daily on concrete/academic language skills, social language skills, and most apparent to listeners, articulation (how kids say their words/speech sounds and how intelligible they are) while battling great odds. Sixty percent (60%) of our students receive free/reduced lunch, many start the year without backpacks or any school supplies, while others need our and our PTA's help with shoes, field trip fees, having their daily needs met, and more.
