Welcome to 2nd grade at Countryside Academy in Benton Harbor, Michigan! My classroom is full of eager, hard-working seven- and eight-year-olds who love hands-on learning. We are a high-need, Title I school in a high-poverty community where many families face economic hardship. Many of my students come to school lacking basic educational supplies, but they show up every day with incredible resilience and big smiles. Second grade is a crucial year where students shift from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." They thrive when they can build, create, and interact directly with their lessons.
