Even though the school doors have yet to open this year, it has been incredible how strong the students have been with the support and love of their families and teachers. It was a pleasure for me to create an outdoor Library day and I wondered if my students would attend. I was overjoyed to see the line going down the sidewalk waiting for their turn to receive books. Providing books each month was so inspiring with 70+% of our students coming to take home books. The families brought their children in the dark, when it was raining and even once we had snow flurries landing on the book covers. The list of books I am requesting will fill the empty spaces on my “New Books!” table that is usually empty within the first 2 hours of the outdoor Library. Offering brand new books may encourage students to try a new series or genre that they’ve not read before. Giving them another view, a moment of laughter and a chance to get lost within the pages.
