My school is located within the only city in the nation that is located totally on an Indian Reservation. The population is struggling with money and jobs like many other communities. Combined with alcoholism, drug abuse, and parents who are missing, the students in my community face numerous challenges and many go to school just because it is safer than home. There are also a large number of students who only eat meals when they come to school because food is unavailable at home, or their parents don't feed them. I truly believe that music is a very important aspect in peoples lives and I am striving to show this to my students. Music can't solve all the problems, but it can definitely be an outlet to relieve all the stress and emotion that they deal with every day.
