I have the absolute privilege of teaching an incredible, brilliant group of 3rd graders in Chicago. My classroom is a beautifully diverse space made up predominantly of vibrant African American students who bring immense energy, creativity, and curiosity to school every single day. We are a tight-knit community where students look out for one another and genuinely love to learn.While our school is located in a historically underfunded, low-income community, my students do not let a lack of systemic resources define their potential. They are passionate storytellers, artistic thinkers, and enthusiastic readers who thrive when given the proper tools. They deserve a classroom environment that honors their brilliance, meets their physical and emotional learning needs, and reflects how deeply valued they are.
