My classroom reflects the diversity of North Minneapolis, including Black, Latino, and Hmong students. We also have a strong Hmong cultural and language focus through our school’s programming, which adds richness to our learning community. Some students receive additional learning supports or classroom accommodations, and many benefit from structured, hands-on, and accessible learning experiences. Our school serves a high percentage of students from low-income households, which can limit access to art materials and creative tools outside of school. Because of this, it is important that my classroom provides engaging, hands-on opportunities where all students can participate fully. When students have access to the right tools and materials, they are better able to stay engaged, express their ideas, and take ownership of their learning.
