The students I support are special education students who range from students with emotional disregulation to Autism Spectrum Disorder. I create a calm and welcoming environment for my students to grow as humans and have a safe space to interact with peers and learn strategies to self regulate their emotions and behaviors. We go over social stories of appropriate behaviors, social do’s and Don’ts, as well as calming techniques to calm their bodies and minds to help themselves navigate their teenage high school lives. The safe tranquil environment that my classroom provides can help develop the skills we teach as they become adults in everyday society.
