My students are smart kids who are just beginning to take an interest in their education. They attend a turnaround school, which is just beginning to implement the proper disciplinary and educational standards they will need to be successful. This, however, is an adjustment for them. They are not used to rigor in their lessons or homework every night. Every day we talk about responsibility and making sure that we are accountable for our actions: we can't use excuses or blame our mistakes on others. When my students do not hand in their homework on time, they often claim that they simply forgot that we had homework for my class, or that they did the homework but forgot it at home. We need to eliminate the potential for these excuses. With a homework planner, I can be sure that each student is certain of each homework assignment.
