These materials have completely transformed how my students see the world around them!\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes arrived and we opened everything up, my students were SO excited. Their eyes lit up when they saw all the colorful building models, the multicultural books, and the photographs from different countries. Kids who usually hang back were suddenly raising their hands and asking a million questions about where these places were and who lived there.\r\n\r\nWe've been using everything across different subjects. In social studies, students created maps showing Newark, New Jersey, and how our state fits into the whole country. We've been exploring different types of homes and buildings from around the world - African villages, Chinese architecture, buildings from the Middle East, polar region igloos, and tall city structures. \r\n\r\nOne of my students got really into comparing the Polar Region with desert environments, trying to figure out why people need such different types of homes. Another student was fascinated by the African architecture and spent extra time reading about traditional building styles. We paired the building models with books like \"Sunny's Alphabets\" and \"Muhammad's Friday Friend,\" and it's been amazing to watch them make connections between the stories and the structures.\r\n\r\nThe hands-on piece has been huge for my students. They're building towers, matching architectural models to photographs of real places, and having conversations about how weather and climate affect how people live. We've integrated this into our science unit about living things and their environments, and suddenly geography feels relevant to them in a way it never did before.\r\n\r\nWhat's really special is seeing students connect this to their own lives. Several of my students have family from different countries, and now they're excited to share about their heritage. These materials have validated their experiences while opening their eyes to places they've never heard of.\r\n\r\nWe're planning to keep the momentum going by creating a classroom \"World Museum\" where students can display their work and teach each other about different countries. They're also going to research and present about places their families are from or countries they want to learn more about.\r\n\r\nMany of my students have never traveled outside of Newark, but right now they're exploring the Arctic, Africa, Asia, and so many other places. You've given them something priceless - a window into the wider world and the curiosity to keep exploring it.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and making this possible. This is the kind of learning they'll remember.","fullyFundedDate":1756314375543,"projectUrl":"project/the-whole-world-in-their-hands-tools-for/9640776/","projectTitle":"The Whole World in Their Hands-Tools for Special Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gina St George","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9564820"},{"teacherId":9714313,"projectId":8715532,"letterContent":"Thank you all so much for helping my students grow this year.
