My students are incredible. They are second graders who come from a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds. They love to play, read, learn, and make each other (and their teacher) laugh every day! They bring enthusiasm and creativity to the classroom, often in spite of the anxiety that comes with an emotionally stressful life. These kids have ambitious goals for their futures, but they have to work extra hard to get there. In addition to working through considerable social and emotional stress, they are striving to learn all of their elementary content as well as the English language. Still, they never cease to amaze me with the growth they are able to make. I feel incredibly lucky to work with and learn from these kids and am constantly inspired by their determination.
