We are the only middle school in a small University town. Our student population is made up of 72% Caucasian, 7% black, 5% Asian, 6% Hispanic, and 10% Native American. Our current enrollment is over 900 students and almost half of those students (46%) are eligible for free/reduced lunch. Studies show that students of poverty have fewer books in the home and are less likely to visit the public library. I think the students at our school are motivated to learn when given the opportunity and tools to do so. The books we could send home through this grant would do just that.
