My students have a variety of abilities and needs and most students have the sensory need to move around and be active throughout the day. Flexible seating allows them not only to be independent and choose their own spot around the room, but it also gives them the opportunity to move their bodies and release extra energy. Bean bag chairs are not only more comfortable than a typical classroom chair, students also have a sense of personal autonomy which allows them to build confidence and independence. On the other hand, some students need the extra support of a lap band to provide pressure on their bodies to remain calm and focused. Students have difficulty staying in their chairs due to sensory needs. The boundary chair is the perfect solution because it provides support and allows the students to have a reminder to stay seated properly. Pencil and paper activities are essential parts of our everyday learning, but students enjoy working with small groups to engage in interactive games. The Roll & Read phonics game will allow them to develop their phonemic awareness while also interacting with their peers. It's not just an added bonus to the lesson, it's absolutely essential to their development. These hands-on materials will help my students learn important concepts in reading and math, while allowing them to explore and discover concepts firsthand. The Addition and Subtraction hands-on material set gives them the opportunity to see math in action and apply it to the real world. In addition to flexible seating, some students need extra support to help them to write legibly. Their hands tire quickly because they are still learning to use a pencil correctly. That's where the handwriting glove comes into play.
