My third grade students are simply wonderful. They come to school daily with attitudes fit for learning. They come ready despite the challenges they face. My school is located in a rural, economically challenged neighborhood in Hawaii with a high population of children with Hawaiian and/or Pacific Island ancestry. Recently, we went on an field trip. For many of the students, it was their first time visiting the Art Academy. The experience of seeing the range of art from paintings to furniture to sculptures, has opened their eyes to the types of artwork treasured. They already love to draw and watercolor. I would love to give them the experience of creating a variety of sculptures.
