My students each have a heart of gold and want to succeed in all areas of school. Most of the students have parents who cannot, or do not, help them with their academics. It is a challenge both for the students and for the parent/teacher communication. My school is Title 1 and Equity Plus; almost all of the students are on free/reduced lunch. I feel that while the school I work in faces a lot of challenges, it is a very rewarding place to work. I see such excitement when a student "gets it", even small successes are celebrated! Students in my class are sometimes helping to "raise" their younger sibling and yet they still get their homework done and still come to school with a smile on their face. I come home each and every day with the gratitude that maybe even 1 or 2 of my students were proud of what they did today.
